"Mariah Carey and Bryan Tanaka Call It Quits After Seven Years Together

In a surprising turn of events, Mariah Carey and Bryan Tanaka have decided to go their separate ways after seven years in a relationship. The news broke late on Wednesday, courtesy of Page Six, citing a source close to the situation. The source revealed that Tanaka's desire to start a family was a key factor in their split, stating, 'He wants to have a family. That’s not where she is at.'

Carey, already a mother to 12-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe from her previous marriage with Nick Cannon, seems to be in a different phase of life than Tanaka. Cannon, who has children with multiple partners, has been separated from Carey since 2014. Carey and Tanaka began dating in 2016, with Carey initially keeping her personal life under wraps. She once stated during an Associated Press interview, 'I’m just going to be like, ‘I really don't talk about my personal life.’ Because that’s what I used to do, and it really worked for a minute, back, a while ago. I just don’t feel comfortable talking about my personal life … Me and my boyfriend don’t want to do that.'

However, Tanaka's connection with Carey dates back to her Adventures of Mimi Tour in 2006 when he worked as a backup dancer for her. Sources revealed to Page Six that Tanaka's aspiration to carve out his own life contributed to the breakup, stating, '[Bryan] wants to start having his own life.' The couple was last seen together at Carey’s 54th birthday party in March, but Tanaka notably did not accompany her on her recent trip to Aspen. Their relationship had a brief split in 2017, followed by a quick reconciliation."
